Guil Araujo
An avid traveller and environmentalist, Guil is from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. From an early age, he has seeked new challenges and adventure exploring different cultures, waves and environments.
With two Bachelors, Guil specialises in Tourism Studies and Applied Sciences from Griffith University. He researched and written essays for the Tourism Industry of the Gold Coast – Environmental Management Performance in Gold Coast Tourist Accommodation (www.http://hdl.handle.net/10072/24505 ) and Green Advertising by Tourism Operators on Australia’s Gold Coast (www.http://hdl.handle.net/10072/24493).
Guil joined the Board of Directors of Surfrider Foundation Brazil, leading environmental awareness programs including a partnership with SPORTV – reaching over six million people daily. He designed and launched the first environmental management programme of the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) and has been responsible for organizing a number of international events including, the Surfing World Championship Tour contest held in Rio de Janeiro in 2000, and the International Surfing Association’s World Amateur Championship in Maracaipe, Brazil, with more than 300 athletes from over 30 nations.
Since 1992 Guil has been involved in promoting green events on Queensland’s Gold Coast. Through Climate Wave, he is consolidating over 15 years of experience with events by engaging new sectors in the challenge of enhancing all aspects of their event’s sustainability, including reducing their carbon footprint, and the overall effects on the environment.

Greg Howell
A former executive director of Surfrider Foundation Australia, long-time surfer and environmentalist, Greg’s environmental campaigning began at a No Nukes rally in Sydney in 1989. Joining the Surfrider Foundation in 1991, Greg held positions from national secretary to local branch president to executive director over a 10 year period and is now one of only a handful of honorary lifetime members.
Initiating and managing many environmental projects, from local creek regeneration through to national and international campaigns and education programs. Greg retired his position as Exec. Direct. in 2002 and founded his own surf coaching business, while maintaining his environmental and social activism in a range of local and international campaigns. Greg still volunteers his time in a mentor role as Vice President for the local Gold Coast Tweed Branch of Surfrider Foundation.
